Day 169 - 170 - Mi Hermano visits København! Pt I

Michael popped into the CPH on Thursday and we had many adventures. Was the whole visit merely an excuse to show this clip? Perhaps.

At any rate, Michael arrived on Thursday to my exuberant waving of an ItalMericaMark flag. This was the plan, but I actually missed his entrance though customs and he stealthily popped up behind me. Good thing I was there to find him!

We took the train back to my Frederiksberg apartment, hit the have with Charlie, did some grocery shopping, and returned. We met Emily for drinks at an outdoor cafe just behind our apartment. Good times. Dinner was pork chops on the grill.

On Friday, Emily had to work, but Michael and I did some wandering / exploring all abouts the city. We made our way through the Rosenborg Gardens and toured the National Gallery (Statens Museum for Kunst). Then it was on to the Nyhavn and Amalienborg - both the Queen and the Crown Prince were home!

After this, lunch at Cafe Halvvejen for smørrebrød and akvavit. Fun times.

After this, we met up with Emily in Christianshavn. To walk up tall things. Specifically, the spire atop the Church of our Savior.

There's a looooong climb inside the tower to get to the outside section. The walkway is narrow and copper and generally tight and uncomfortable. Tons of people going up, tons of people going down. But the view!

Then it was back to home for rest. Next, to Barburitto for tacos and margaritas. This was shockingly unexpectedly tasty Mexican food. I recommend.

Then it was off to Tivoli for Fredagsrock, rides, and more. And by more, I mean more weird mime shows.

Tivoli is one of the most popular amusement parks in Europe. It has rides, entertainment, carnival games, churros, cardboard-five-beer-holders, gardens, swans, geese, and more mimes.

Every Friday in the summer, Tivoli has a "free" - free with the entrance fee - concert. This week it was Kashmir. The lead singer's voice was a tad Wayne Coyne. They are apparently very well known in the DK.

We rode on the Himmelskibet, a high flying swing ride that looks like this at night.

The collective agreement was that although it was awesome to fly high above the city, it wasn't "fun" in the sense that it was mostly disorienting / face hurting. I'm still glad we did it.

We also rode on the Daemon.

This was universally enjoyed. It was much like the Batman ride at Great America, which apparently now runs backwards. There was also no Batdance. This is the main area where Batman wins.

Additional fun fact, it costs money to enter Tivoli and it also costs money to ride the rides. Each ride - the good ones at least - cost 75 dkk.

It was a fun night.
