Day 501 - Eurovision Island

We mentioned Eurovision a couple of times last year. It's sort of like the Olympics meets American Idol. Countries put forth a competitor, there's voting, and we crown a champion.

Last year's winner hailed from Denmark which means that this year's contest took place right here in København. Emily and I didn't attend any of the events, but we did see this.

During Eurovision week, the 9A's new destination was Eurovision Island. I don't know why this amuses me. It sounds like a failed EPCOT attraction. Located right next to Captain EO

Excellently, this year's winner is Austrian transvestite Tom Neuwirth / Conchita Wurst! Take that Vladimir Putin! Conchita is Neuwirth's invention and translates as...
While in German, Wurst means 'sausage,' the performer compares the choice of last name to the common German expression 'Das ist mir doch alles Wurst,' which translates as 'it's all the same to me,' and 'I don't care,' stating that the name emerged from the first meaning of the expression and added, "It doesn't really matter where one comes from, and what one looks like." In the same interview the performer stated that the first name was from a Cuban friend.
Congratulations to Conchita and Austria!
